Inside the Facebook Ads of Your Competitors: How to Research, What to Learn

If you’re looking for inspiration for your next great Facebook ad, then we’ve got you covered with this post!

We’re diving into the Facebook Ad Library to give you tips on how to research the ads of your competitors and how to find inspiration from some of the most creative and effective Facebook advertisers out there. We’ll share some specific tips on how to get meaningful Facebook ad results, and we’re hopeful you’ll leave with a list of ideas that you can test today.

Let me know if this resonates with you: Social media sometimes feel like more art than science.

That’s a bit hard to admit since our Buffer podcast is called The Science of Social Media!

But it’s true. There are strategies and tactics, especially on the brand side of things, that can be hard to measure and hard to quantify. Still, we want to do our best to give you the specifics on what works and why — and we have an especially cool way of doing that when it comes to Facebook ads.

The state of Facebook advertising

You’ve probably heard public perception shifting a little bit in recent months regarding Facebook. Despite this change, the advertising potential of Facebook remains huge. When we talk about Facebook, we’re really talking about Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Whatsapp — all the assorted properties that Facebook owns. This year, Facebook is nearing 2 billion users on its platforms — that’s nearly 1 in every 3 people over the age of 13 in the world.

Moreso, Facebook ads still get clicks. According to stats as of April of this year, the average Facebook user clicks on 11 ads in 30 days.

Anecdotally, those click numbers sound great, though they have been better. Cost per click on Facebook is as high as 15 cents versus 12 cents a year ago, and clickthrough rate for brand ads was at 1.6 percent at the start of the year and is now closer to 1.1 percent.

https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.socialbakers.com%2Fwww%2Fstorage%2Fwww%2Farticles%2Fcontent%2F2019-08%2F1567164444-screen_01_page15.jpg

So the takeaway here is that Facebook has a huge potential audience, people still click Facebook ads all the time, and the competition is strong for who gets those clicks.

Now we can bring in the science!

Takeaway: Use Facebook Ad Library to see how other Pages are advertising Facebook-Ad-Library-example-lululemon-800x656.png

With this new tool, you can enter the name of any Facebook Page, and it will show you all the ads that the page has, both active and inactive.

The tool has a lot of features built around political and issue-based ads in order to provide transparency on who pays for what. Marketers can benefit from it, of course, by using the tool to do some research and gain inspiration from the brands that are doing great things with Instagram ads.For instance, if you pull up Airbnb on the Facebook Ads Library tool, you’ll see that they currently have over 930 ads running in the U.S. alone. Additionally, you can see that they’ve spent $58,000 on political or issue-based ads since May 2018.

Fascinating stuff.

So we’ve put some time into using this tool to come up with some best practices for Facebook ads along with some research on the ‘net to see what other advice is out there. If you have any favorite ad examples you love, feel free to share with us on social media using the hashtag #bufferpodcast. We’d love to hear them.

Tips for Facebook image ads

We’ve seen a couple of popular varieties of images in our Facebook Ads Library research. First, some successful brands use images that re-enforce the copy claims in the ad’s text and call-to-action. For instance, Lululemon’s ads for a ventilated shirt show a man exercising while wearing the shirt — and looking cool and ventilated while he does it.

Screen-Shot-2019-09-16-at-12.31.30-PM-592x800.png

Of course, it may not always be possible to come up with like-for-like images, especially if you don’t have a physical product. We find this a lot with our social ads at Buffer since we sell software.

In that case, we’ve seen a lot of brands go for either an attractive image that catches attention while relating somewhat to the image copy — for instance, AirTable used a dog photo, which is always a winner. Or, if you can swing it, we’ve seen brands like Headspace have great success with illustrations and graphics.

Vibrant imagery can be really effective on Facebook. If you’re making graphics, you can do this with color, like The Guardian has with its ads. They placed their weekly magazine on a bright yellow background for some ads. We’ll link to it in the show notes so you can see it. It’s striking!

One way that seems to work well with testing which images could be ad-worthy is to use organic posts as a testing ground. A lot of our very best ads at Buffer have started as organic posts to our Page. We boost high-performing content — especially content that has high engagement rates — and we’re able to learn what type of visuals and copy resonate with the Facebook community.

Tips for Facebook ad copywriting

With image ads — and every other type of Facebook ad, really — one of the most important elements after the visuals will be your call-to-action. What words will you use to convince someone to click or tap?

You’ll find a lot of great inspiration with copywriting, too, when you spend some time in Facebook Ads Library. Here are a few of our favorite discoveries.

You can point your call-to-action to a Facebook Event. This comes with a bunch of benefits: people get to stay on Facebook rather than leave to a new site, which may boost your click rate. Those who RSVP can act as a form of viral promotion since their “Yes” replies may send the event into their feed and surface the event on their friends’ feeds. And of course, in tying the even back to your Facebook page, you get the added bonus of extra exposure for your page itself, which will hopefully bring you some more follows. You can put social proof in your copy, sometimes even making the call-to-action as explicit as “See the reviews” or “1,000-plus Google Reviews.”And along with reviews, we’ve seen a lot of brands embracing the Instant Experience storefront, which allows people to stay on Facebook but still browse your products through an experience that you can customize. Instant Experiences can be used with almost all Facebook ad formats–Carousel, Single Image, Video, Slideshow and Collection. The one thing to keep in mind is that it’s mobile-only for now.Ultimately, the best calls-to-action we’ve seen written are those that take you to a page that matches the text in the call-to-action itself, creating a sense of continuity for the customer. Whenever possible, we highly recommend building a custom landing page experience that matches the messaging of your ad. Tips for Facebook video ads

Another popular type of Facebook ad is video. There are a couple of main tips we’ve noticed when it comes to video ads on Facebook.

First, brands create videos that can be effective with the sound turned off. Data shows that as much as 85 percent of Facebook videos are watched without sound, so it’s imperative that whatever video you use in your advertising that it can get its point across through visuals alone. You can do this purely by visuals — say, if you’re a clothing brand and want to show off your outfits, or if you’re a food or cooking product and can show your stuff at work in the kitchen. If you really do need words, though, there’s always captions. We’ve seen a lot of effective ads that go with captions to support the story of their ad.

Another common best practice is to use square video rather than landscape video. This is especially important when you consider the viewing experience across mobile and desktop — landscape videos just don’t work as well on phones.

We ran a study about this and found that square video outperformed landscape video on every social media network in terms of video views, engagement, and completion rate.In some cases, square video resulted in 30-35% higher video views and an 80-100% increase in engagement.

If you happen to be running just a mobile ad, then you might consider a vertical format instead. Otherwise, we suggest keeping your videos square so that they work great everywhere.

Tips for Facebook carousel ads and lead ads

Carousel ads are another neat way to tell a story with Facebook ads.

One of the best ways we’ve seen this work is to visually tie the images together, either thematically  by choosing similar images or quite explicitly by cutting up a single image into multiple frames or using graphic design elements that carry over from one carousel image to the next. With carousel ads, you can apply many of the same techniques as with the image ads we discussed earlier: use images that relate to the copy, be vibrant, be engaging.

That’s probably good advice for any visual you use on any of the different Facebook ad types.

Take Lead Ads for instance.

In addition to the visual marketing tips, we’ve seen brands really make the most of this ad type by being smart about the way they set up the lead capture forms. Facebook will autofill certain types of information, which makes these lead forms as easy-as-can-be for the people signing up. Brands use this to their advantage by only asking for the essential information. We’ve seen some companies only ask for email addresses — say, if you’re wanting to send an e-book.For others, especially those with brick-and-mortar locations or regional events, we’ve seen simple forms with email, city, and country.

As you’re scrolling through Facebook Ads Library, one thing you’re likely to notice is that many of the ads show text that says the ad you’re looking at has multiple versions.

Tool: Dynamic creative ads

This Facebook ads feature will automatically optimize and deliver the highest-performing combinations of visuals and copy. You simply give Facebook a bunch of options to choose from, and Facebook will serve variations across its ad network until it finds the best-performing combinations. These combos then get served more widely as the winning ads.

You can apply dynamic creative ads to Conversion, Traffic, Video Views, Reach, Brand Awareness, and App Install campaigns. Pretty much anything you could hope for.

And when you’re coming up with options, the limits for creative are 10 images or videos and 5 options for each of body text, title, description, and call-to-action.

Tool: Text overlay

Another favorite tool of ours — and one we see put to good use very often in the Facebook Ad Library ads — is the Text Overlay Tool.

You can upload your ad to this tool, and it will tell you whether your ad contains a High, Medium, or Low amount of text. This is important because the amount of text can affect the reach of your ad.

Ideally, Facebook prefers visuals that have little to no text. You’ll see this in the ads of top brands — they all have bright and stunning visuals with very little text.Still, if your ad image does need some text on it — say, with a brand message or tagline — you can test it on the Text Overlay tool first.

After uploading, the tool will give your image a score of High, Medium, Low, or OK. High-text images may not run at all.Medium-text images may have much lower reach.Low-text images may have slightly lower reach. And OK images should run as expected.

Could enough retweets get you an Oscar?

It’s a stretch. But it could definitely boost your movie marketing. This Sunday, the 91st Academy Awards takes place at the Dolby Theatre in L.A. One of the film industry’s biggest nights of the year, millions of fans worldwide will follow with great interest to see who walks away with the coveted gold figure.

But how do film studios achieve the success needed to get their work recognised? Can the success of a movie marketing campaign make or break a film?

The answer, as ever, is complicated. While it is widely refuted that the cinema industry is dying, it is becoming harder to attract footfall for theatres (except when Luke Skywalker goes missing, or Thanos is at it again).

The major studios know their big properties will do well, they just need to get the word out. Then, we do the rest for them. Armies of fans rush to social platforms and forums to discuss the latest big-budget releases. However, when it comes to smaller films and studios, more work must be done to get this level of penetration and awareness.

Movie marketing is way more than just a tantalising trailer and a long press junket, we know that. But without the budget to add bells and whistles to a promotional campaign, studios must get the most out of what they have.

Enter stage left – social media. We’re not just talking about Twitter and Facebook Pages, or creating a hashtag for the movie, we’re talking about creating engaging, valuable video content.

A recent study into the relationship between consumer engagement behaviour and the economic performance of a film found a prominent correlation on content posted to Facebook and YouTube – the two most video-focused social media platforms.

Having a social media presence is one thing. But actively engaging a target audience at the right time with the right content is the real money shot. It’s cost-effective, grows organically and can be scaled easily.

cinema.png

The biggest strength of social video marketing is the reach and engagement it achieves – people are watching more social video than ever before. The proliferation of social has enabled everyone to be a critic, always looking to join in the online conversation. Networking works – social media users are very likely to engage with content and share their opinion with their networks, who will share with their networks, and so on.

The mechanics are in place for social video to reach far and wide, it just needs feeding it the right content. Fortunately, social media is an arena rife with feedback. Its two-way nature allows marketers to constantly fine-tune their strategy, allowing experimentation with every aspect.

Creating original, supplementary content for social and mobile is where the real gains are to be made in movie marketing. Enriching the experience by adding new layers of context creates a meaningful sentiment with the audience – it makes them feel a part of the film’s world – taking them behind the curtain and immersing them in the world the studio has created.

The use of live video is important in creating these moments. Think about creating new IP, bespoke live social formats that allow the audience to participate. The community-based experience of live social video drives engagement and longer watch times, as viewers comment on the post and interact with each other.

Live social shows also enable publishers to leverage influencers and user-generated content (UGC). By hosting a live Q&A with key people from the film, and influencers in target demographics, publishers can run polls and invite UGC in the form of social posts, videos and images.

Imagine Bradley Cooper answering fan questions about ‘A Star is Born’ while judging clips of singing fans, being submitted in real-time. This content can drive the highly-engaged audience to book tickets, or leave a review.

Social audiences are receptive to active experiences and want to contribute to a shared experience – tapping into this creates a stronger link with a product. When premiere night comes around, not everyone can be at the red carpet. But with social live streams, you can make anyone feel like they were there, watching alongside their friends.

Back this up with real-time video clips from marketing events – the most engaging form of content across social media. Higher engagement = wider reach. A viral clip could put one foot inside the cinema for many people.

Penetrating social networks using these tools gives all films a chance to take the starring role. That isn’t to say traditional movie marketing doesn’t work – who doesn’t love seeing the first poster, or the new toy in a McDonalds Happy Meal? But in a world where attention is fleeting, and the media market is crowded, studios need to draw audiences on the right devices, at the right time.

Deliver enough great content and who knows? Maybe those retweets will help get an Oscar.

Guy Shares Hilarious Video Pranking Drunk Students

MILK-PRANKWEB-262x175.jpgScreen-Shot-2018-10-16-at-11.34.34.pngUNILAD

Let’s be honest, a lot of us spent more time procrastinating at university than doing actual work.

Looking for ways to entertain themselves on a low budget, students often turn to alcohol, partying and bingeing plenty of shows on Netflix.

When 26-year-old Sam Harris from Watford was a student though, he and his 13 flatmates amused themselves by playing ‘Student Milk Fishing’, a game which has since gone viral online.

You can watch ‘Student Milk Fishing’ in action in the video below:

During his third year of studying Broadcast Journalism at Nottingham Trent University, Sam and his flatmates had grown tired of going out drinking and so stayed at home more.

With their flat situated between Nottingham train station and Ocean nightclub, Sam and his friends spent many a night people watching thanks to there always being a steady stream of drunk students walking past.

One night after having a ‘couple of B&H Greens’, Sam’s flatmate Danny Jones decided to put to use the excessive amount of empty milk bottles that were building up in their flat by tying them to string and dangling it in front of the drunk students outside.

Screen-Shot-2018-10-16-at-11.02.44.pngUNILAD

Speaking to UNILAD, Sam revealed how exactly the game worked:

We had been thinking of different, legal, ways to mess around with the drunk passersby. I lived with a couple of product designers that had an abnormal amount of string so we started using different objects, but the milk bottle appeared to be the most appealing to other students.

The lamppost we used as a pulley device came in handy as when you looked up to see where this floating milk bottle came from, the light blinded the view of those below so they could see the bottle but not us, and we could see them. It was the perfect stealth mode.

Although many would just ignore the seemingly floating milk bottle, some would stand and stare at it for ‘a good 10 minutes’ while one group spent time trying to grab it.

Of course Sam and his mates would always hilariously pull the bottle back up, just outside of the group’s reach, every time one of them nearly got it further teasing the boozers.

Screen-Shot-2018-10-16-at-10.57.00.pngUNILAD

As Sam admits, he wasn’t too shocked that some people were drawn in by a hovering bottle of milk as ‘alcohol can make a lot of weird things seem normal to people’.

You really have hit the nail on the head there, Sam.

When the video appeared on Sam’s Facebook memories last week, he decided to share it as a throwback on Twitter writing:

People ask me how my time at Uni was. Well I spent a lot of my time tying a milk bottle to a piece of string, throwing it over a lamppost from my flat window and teasing drunk students with it. These were the only successful group out of 50 plus videos. Enjoy.

Shame I’ve been sat on this joyous video for six years. I’m glad to have brought it into your lives. Long live the milk.

Screen-Shot-2018-10-16-at-11.11.57.pngUNILAD

The internet of course showed their live with the video going viral receiving over 18,900 views at time of writing (October 16).

I am sure ‘Student Milk Fishing’ will be making a return soon as another group of students continue its legacy.

NFL Legend And Aviation Engineer Team Up To Challenge Record for Longest Ever Paper Aeroplane Flight

Paper-Planes-A-262x175.jpgPaper-Planes-A.jpgSWNS

The history of aviation has seen some truly breathtaking moments. The first hot air balloon, the first transatlantic flight, the first man on the moon. And this is before you even look at the leaps and bounds made in the realm of paper aeroplanes.

The current record held for the longest paper aeroplane flight stands at almost 70 metres, surpassing the wingspan of a jumbo jet.

This is of course impressive, but one dynamic duo are convinced they have the combined skillset necessary to soar far above this record; with a foolproof concoction of engineering know-how and sporting talent.

Virgin Atlantic engineer Andy Currey and Jacksonville Jaguars legend Mark Brunell are combining their powers to leave the previous record in the dust, marking the official partnership between the NFL and Virgin Atlantic.

Being the current record holder, Currey is an old hat in the world of paper planes. Could Brunell’s brawny input put that extra little more wind beneath Currey’s wings?

Currey said:

It’s been several years since I held my world record, so I’m hoping my aeronautical knowledge partnered with the athletic abilities of a top Quarterback will make the perfect combination.

For the live stream event, I’ll be designing and building the paper aeroplane with an A4 piece of paper, and transporting it in an airtight plastic bag to ensure that it’s nimble and perfect for a paper aeroplane’s longest flight.

This sound design, paired with Mark’s throwing technique of speed, strength and momentum, should be just what we need to make the plane travel the distance.

Although lacking Guinness World Records recognition and verification, this will still be an exciting feat to behold; being one very huge leap for the tiny, flimsy plane.

The papery, and presumably passengerless, aeroplane itself has been nicknamed NFL-Y; with plenty of pressure heaped upon its little wings.

With a scheduled take-off time of 11:00am on October 24, its virgin flight will be streamed live via Facebook. Let’s just hope for good weather conditions…

Whether you are into paper planes or not, you can guess the length of the flight in order to be eligible for some very nice prizes indeed.

The person to guess the closest distance will bag a trip to the Pro Bowl in Orlando, Florida January 27, 2019, with accommodation included for themselves and three sporty mates.

You can submit a guesstimate for the closest distance here

Good luck and Godspeed!

NYC Subway Passenger Hands Adorable Boy His Phone

FaceThumb-13.39.48-Kid-on-Subway-262x175.jpgFaceThumb-13.39.48-Kid-on-Subway.jpgKia Tatiyana Davis/Facebook

If there’s one thing kids these days love, it’s smartphones, and they’re always quick to ask what games you have on yours – have you ever noticed this?

My young cousins constantly ask ‘what games you got?’ the very second I pull my phone out of my handbag.

It turns out, this is universal. A guy travelling on the New York subway found this out recently.

Watch the heartwarming exchange between the strangers:

Sitting there minding his business, the man was busy playing on his phone, as many commuters do, to pass the time when the kid next to him started looking over at the phone, and ‘chirping in’ with advice.

Suddenly, the man looks over and hands his phone over to the little passenger beside him, so the boy could play a game as they travelled together.

Screen-Shot-2018-08-12-at-11.06.19.pngKia Tatiyana Davis / Facebook

Footage of the sweet exchange was caught on video by fellow passenger Kia Tatiyana Davis, who happened to be at the right place and the right time to witness the act of kindness.

Davis later posted the exchange to her Facebook page, where it has been viewed more than 27,000 views.

She wrote:

What I witnessed today on the train. I almost cried y’all.

Screen-Shot-2018-08-12-at-11.06.24.pngKia Tatiyana Davis / Facebook

And she wasn’t the only one appreciating the random act of kindness, almost 1,000 people commented on the post.

One wrote:

That’s awesome!! That boy will talk about that for days to his friends. .

Another added:

That little boy is so cute and sweet. I would’ve let him use my phone too.

Somebody else commented:

I love to see videos like this it show there’s nice people out there.

Back in 2016, a 70-year-old woman travelling on public transport stunned passengers with a random act of kindness, when she helped a man reportedly suffering from mental health issues.

The story was posted on Facebook by Ehab Taha who claimed passenger had felt intimidated by the man’s ‘erratic behaviour’.

(function(d, s, id) var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s); if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = 'https://connect.facebook.net/en_GB/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v3.1'; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));

Posted by Ehab Taha on Tuesday, 2 February 2016

Ehab said the man was potentially struggling with drug abuse or enduring a severe mental health episode, swearing and displaying aggression.

According to Ehab, everybody on the train ignored the man, all except for one elderly woman who simply held his hand and offered him some comfort.

Writing alongside the heartwarming image, Ehab said:

I saw the most incredible display of humanity on the skytrain.

A six foot five man suffering from drug abuse and/or mental health issues was being very aggressive on the bus with erratic movements, cursing, shouting, etc. While everyone was scared, this one seventy year old woman reached out her hand, tightly gripping his hand until he calmed down, sat down silently, with eventual tears in his eyes.

I spoke to the woman after this incident and she simply said, ‘I’m a mother and he needed someone to touch’. And she started to cry. Don’t fear or judge the stranger on the bus: life does not provide equal welfare for all its residents.

There is a world full of good people out there.

If you have a story to share, please email us at stories@unilad.co.uk.

Marine Returns Home To Surprise His Nan, She Faints From Shock

FAINTING-NAN-FB-262x175.jpgFAINTING-NAN-FB-1048x630.jpgUNILAD

A marine gave his grandma a better gift then she could ever have imagined with hilarious results.

Torri Tyrell Brown, a 20-year-old lad from Jackson, Mississippi, has been stationed at Camp Kinser on Okinawa Island, just south of Japan, for the past year and seven months.

The last time he saw his family was December 2016 so he decided to return home and surprise them last month.

With his nan fainting from shock the moment she saw Torri in kitchen, it’s clear his surprise was more effective than even he thought it would be.

You can watch the video here:

In the footage Torri can be seen patiently waiting in the kitchen as his family led his nan, Willie Bell Burkes, 62, into the room saying to her ‘look who just walked into your house’.

The moment Willie spots Torri, she collapses to the floor fainting from shock. Thankfully her family helped soften the fall and made sure she was okay getting up soon after.

Clearly unsure whether to laugh or panic, Torri can be seen standing speechless clearly overwhelmed by her reaction.

Speaking exclusively to UNILAD, Torri said his family predicted his nan would faint as she is pretty ‘extra’.

He explained:

I decided to surprise my grandma right before our family reunion so I told her I wasn’t going to make it back home for the family reunion once again.

After that phone call, I went to the airport to fly out to the States. I called my cousin (one of the two people I told) to come pick me up.

He picked me up and I first surprised my cousins and auntie. They then began to record after they called my grandma to the kitchen area when she then fainted.

The rest of my family knew she would faint, because she’s always extra when it comes to me. I was mostly shocked but it was hysterical at the same time.

She’s a caring and kind woman who raised me every since I was a young infant. She has been there for me my entire life and I consider her my best friend.

How sweet! She clearly loved having you back home Torri!

Earlier this year in June a similar video went viral of a dad’s incredible reaction to his son returning home from the military.

27-year-old Taylor McCauley had been away for seven years but decided to surprise his dad on Father’s Day who flipped over a table in excitement and rushed over to give his son the biggest hug.

You can watch the emotional moment here:

Speaking exclusively to UNILAD, Taylor explained he had no idea how his dad would react.

He said:

I wasn’t sure how it was going to go. I drove 17 hours to get back home so my head was all over the place.

I was in contact with my parents before I got to the house and made it seem like I was still in North Carolina because I really wanted them to be surprised, but also to keep tabs on them so the plan would go well.

It was Father’s Day so I knew it would be intense and on the way back I got a pretty heartfelt message from my dad.

When I read it, I thought ‘oh man’, that’s why in the video he called me a son of a bitch.

Yeah, to be fair, you probably had that coming, Taylor!

Cat Sublets Out Its Tail To Dogs

Cats are known to be quite ignorant sometimes, while dogs are often overly enthusiastic about the most banal stuff. Put those two together and this is what you get.

Bizarre ‘UFO Cloud’ Seen In The Skies Above Moscow

cloudCENa-262x175.jpgcloudCENa.jpgCEN

Strange goings-on in Russia… again.

A cloud has been spotted above a block of flats in the Russian capital city Moscow.

This isn’t just any cloud though, it’s like something out of Independence Day, but less Hollywood looking and more, well, just kinda grey looking.

Still, it’s pretty perturbing to see. A definite flying saucer shape, and definite movement up and away to get out of there, and who’s to blame them.

Check it out:

The unusual sight, which some sceptics are calling a mere weather phenomenon, was filmed by by an eyewitness who spotted the cloud over the city’s Adropov Avenue.

He can be heard in the background of the video asking:

What is that? Aliens? Is it a UFO?

If it is aliens, you’re a bit late guys, the World Cup was last month, but we forgive you for your tardiness after what must have been a long journey.

Now, some people might try to tell you this is just an unusually-shaped cumulus cloud – a particularly fluffy cloud at a particularly low level.

Others might try to tell you it’s a lenticular cloud, which form when air travels along the surface of the Earth and encounter an obstruction like, for example, hills, mountains, or even a tower block of flats.

But don’t let that put you off, young believers. If you think it’s a UFO, who’s to tell you otherwise? Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid in the form of creatures from outer space. Goethe said that.

Eastern Europe seems to be getting more than its fair share of UFO sightings lately.

Earlier this summer, back in the heady days when we were all lost in a football haze, two glowing orbs were reportedly seen lighting up the midnight sky over the west of Kazakhstan, just a few miles from where England were playing Sweden in the World Cup quarter final.

The collision then happened near the village of Bostandyk, around 1,000ft from the Zhalpakatal-Karasi highway, according to police.

The unidentified flying object apparently ‘exploded’ on landing, causing houses in the area to ‘tremble’ while it also ignited a blaze on the land, wiping out bushes and grass over a 100 hectare area.

According to locals, mobile communications were cut out due to the incident, and residents who rushed towards the site of the crash found a silver-coloured object partially buried in the ground, and another similar but smaller object nearby.

Check out the unexplained footage here:

The silver object had a sealed hatch with a protruding valve, which the locals were unable to open. While a law enforcement source said the strange object was like ‘a ball that had been welded shut’.

Residents also reported seeing the object spinning in the sky before it crashed, with bright lights pulsating around it, the Mirror reports.

I’ve no idea why, but once these aliens are seen they don’t seem to hang around long do they? Is Earth just way more disappointing than they were expecting?
