Twitter Takes Shots At Instagram For Being Mostly Screenshotted Tweets

We live in an era of humanized corporations. Many of the biggest companies underpay some millennials to manage their social media accounts so their brand names surreptitiously infiltrate your timelines and your minds. They play with memes and trending topics to gain your trust and support, promoting the notion that the internet is an even playing field where everyone gathers to have a good time. Despite the slight eeriness of this state of affairs, corporations trying to sound like the rest of us regular folk has at times resulted in some hilarious interactions.

A few days ago, the social media intern at Twitter decided, possibly out of boredom, to start some beef with Twitter's rival platform, Instagram. Clearing all previous photos from its official Instagram page, Twitter posted a screenshot of a tweet by someone named Mia that read: "Instagram is literally just screenshots of tweets and I think @Twitter should call them out." Well, it turns out someone at Twitter was inspired by Mia's suggestion. The screenshot of the tweet was divided into six different photos in order to take up two rows on Twitter's profile and more real estate on Instagram in general.

Even though Twitter was calling out Instagram for feeding off its content, Twitter's Insta page is now devoted to sharing some of the greatest hits of tweets - probably as a power move to attract users to its hilarious hellscape of an app.

Now, we wait for Instagram's response.

BJ Penn Finally Speaks Out On Recent String Of Viral Street Fight Videos

BJ Penn has been getting into a ton of trouble recently and it all started back in June when he was caught on camera beating up a strip club bouncer in Hawaii. Just a couple of weeks ago, Penn was in some trouble again as videos emerged of him being beaten up by a man on the street. In a second video, Penn gets his revenge and ends up on top of the man as he lays down some haymakers to let the guy know what's up. These recent videos are fairly bizarre especially when you consider how Penn has a fight coming up and that he has a reputation to uphold.

In an interview with TSN, Penn broke his silence on these videos and offered an explanation for it all. In the most recent incident, Penn says the man in question was an acquaintance and got violent for no reason. Penn says he tried hugging the man and instead of reciprocating, the man threw punches which is what led to the larger altercation. Penn also went on to talk about the strip club fiasco and how it's affecting his personal life.

"There was another video on TMZ of me holding somebody on the ground ... I’m in the middle of a custody case right now and from that last one I already got a lot of flak from the custody evaluator, from their lawyer of course, from my lawyer," Penn explained. "The last thing I want to do is get into any type of trouble, my custody case, me seeing my kids depends on all this stuff and it’s just really strange how things just happen and you never see this kind of stuff, but here I am in a custody case and this happened twice."

Penn is clearly on the defensive about these videos so it will be interesting to see how it all plays out for him moving forward.

Beyoncé Blows Out Birthday Cake Backstage At Made In America Festival

For eight years now, Jay Z's Labour Day weekend Made In America festival has coincided with Beyoncé's birthday, which is September 4. During his headlining performance at the festival in 2017, Jay Z had the crowd sing "Happy Birthday" to his beloved wife. That same night, Queen Bey was presented backstage with a beautiful black and gold cake that went viral for its $3,500 value.

Although Day 2 of MIA fell three days before Bey Day this year, Jay Z still kept up the tradition of celebrating the most important holiday backstage. Beyoncé's birthday surely worthy of being a week-long affair anyway. In videos that surfaced of the backstage party on Sunday, a sizeable group sings "Happy Birthday" for Bey's 38th. The cake isn't as glamorous as the one from 2017, but she looks grateful nonetheless. Jay Z joyfully stands by her side, gripping a massive bottle of Ace of Spades champagne (of course), and then calls out a portion of the crowd for not singing loud enough.

Other notable things that transpired at Made In America festival this past weekend include DaBaby grinding up on Lizzo, Lil Uzi Vert berating a security guard for getting rough with a fan and Beyoncé dispelling pregnancy rumours by toting a bag of D'Ussé.

Hailey Baldwin Changes Her Last Name To Bieber On Instagram

Hailey Baldwin, I mean Bieber, has made things Instagram official. The relationship between Hailey and Justin Bieber has been on an upward spiral since the beginning of the year. Rumors that the two had wed began to circulate online after they were spotted at a courthouse soon after the engagement. Hailey shrugged off the rumors, and the world was left to believe that the two were still engaged. Then, Alec Baldwin confirmed that his niece had gotten married, causing the couple's fans to go wild.

Most recently, Justin hopped on Instagram to post a picture of him and Hailey together. "My wife is awesome," was the caption he chose to describe the picture, furthering confirming the marriage. As if that wasn't enough, Hailey has now officially changed her last name to Bieber on Instagram.

There is no trace of "Baldwin" left, as Hailey opted to ditch the hyphenated trend that some women with memorable or powerful last names seem to follow. According to TMZ, Hailey filed to get her new full name trademarked, which means she's very serious about branding herself from here on out. Expect Hailey Bieber merchandise to be the next trending fashion line or makeup brand.

Al Roker Draws Laughs From Smut Peddlers Over "Sweet Potato Poon" Dish

Is nothing sacred? In today's world, not a single innuendo can go undiscovered. Least of all, one involving the word "Poon." Today Show host Al Roker learned a hard, and possibly family-dinner-ruining lesson today, after decided to share his cherished Thanksgiving Recipe: "Sweet Potato Poon" on national television. The segment, which found each dish sampled by a panel of guest judges, found Roker breaking down the foundational elements of his signature "Poon."

They are, as follows: Sweet potatoes, flour, a stick of butter, pineapple, all-spice brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking powder, and marshmallows. If the taste test is to be believed, the "poon" is delectable, if a little on the sweet side.

After being questioned, albeit innocently, about the name, Roker explains it has simply been called "Poon" forever. It didn't take long for the mysterious dish to start trending, and many had a laugh at the adult-friendly euphemism. Throw Al Roker a bone. "Sweet Potato Poon" has been passed down for generations. And besides, the name does possess a certain sense of charm, does it not?

Why you might get more domestic bookings this Christmas

While the old saying claims that there’s no place like home for the holidays, many people around the world tend to disagree. The holiday season is the perfect excuse to travel.

Whether people are heading to a destination to visit family, or selecting a new place to visit to get away from their family during the chaotic-yet-festive time, the holiday season is one of the busiest travel seasons of the year.

A recent report by Sojern has highlighted the travel trends to expect for the 2018 holiday season. Here’s what you need to know:

People will be staying local this holiday season

If you thought most of your holiday guests would be hailing from the far-flung reaches of the globe, you might want to think again. The Sojern report cites data claiming that many travellers are looking to stay closer to home this Christmas season — yet they are looking to book longer stays. For example, 33% of travellers in the United States said that they would be visiting a destination closer to home, but staying for eight or more days.

Travellers are booking their holiday stays early

The data notes that most travellers around the globe begin their online booking journeys approximately 60 days in advance of their departure. This means most travellers are looking to book their December getaways in late September or early October.

Mobile search is playing a prevalent role in holiday travel booking

Mobile search continues to dominate in the travel industry, and holiday travel booking is no exception. B&B operators need to have a responsive website design in place in order to maximise their bookings with busy holiday travellers.

Noting the data and statistics highlighted by Sojern, you may want to consider adapting your marketing strategy for the Christmas season. Here’s a few tips to help you attract the most motivated holiday travellers:

Launch a holiday email marketing campaign Email has always been a successful channel for B&B operators, but the holiday season can be particularly beneficial. Sending emails with higher frequency during this busy season can help you catch the attention of interested travellers, and also provide additional information about your B&B. Be merry and bright on all of your social posts Right after October ends, it seems that people get into the holiday spirit — especially on social media. Start incorporating the holidays into your social posts now by adding photos of your decor, live streaming a holiday lights display or launching a Christmas contest. Host holiday events that will generate buzz People love to get out and enjoy the season during the holidays, and events can be a great way to attract visitors from both near and far to your B&B. Holiday brunches, Christmas concerts and a festive tour of your B&B are just a few examples of events to consider hosting.
